Merchants opend play in the Art Wright Memorial Tournament with a come from behind, extra inning win over the Timberjacks on Thursday night at Auburn HS. Nick Johnson was the show on the mound with a complete game 8 inning win. Nick was masterfully efficient allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2 in the 90 pitch effort. Sean Gray paced the offense with 2 doubles while Johnson pitched in with 2 hits of his own. With the game tied in the top of the 8th Alac Wong led off with a double followed by a bunt single by Nick Savas. Jay Leverett was intentionally walked to load the bases and with one out Zach Johnson hit an infield single. Jack Perkins followed with a sacrifice fly and then Nick Johnson put the game out of reach with a 2 run double. Johnson then ended the game retiring the side in order to preserve the 6-2 win.
